Deshio Monjudo

Admire the hydrangea!

Deshiomonjudo (Ryokouji) in the Murakizawa area of Yamagata City is also known as Hydrangea Temple. Approximately 40 types, 2,500 hydrangeas are in full bloom from late June to mid-July every year.

Deshiomonjudo is an ancient temple that was opened by Kobo Daishi about 1200 years ago. The approach leading to the temple is 515m, and you can enjoy colorful hydrangeas such as blue and purple in an emotional atmosphere.

In addition, the "Murakizawa Hydrangea Festival" is held every year, and the lights are lit up after sunset.

On the way, there is "Meotosugi", a natural monument designated by Yamagata City. Originally, it is a rare cedar tree made by combining two cedars into one. Don't miss it!!

The road is stone steps and cobblestones, so please wear comfortable shoes when you come.
